Series Title: Second Nature
Artist Statement:
Focusing on how we construct and manipulate nature to create aesthetically fluent views, this work confronts contemporary conventions of nature and reality. This visually driven society has wired us with a core set of expectations when interacting with nature. These expectations have in turn created an aesthetic language from which we build our ideas of what nature is. Concerning oak trees, amusement parks, roadside turnoffs, and orca whales, Second Nature examines an American visual consciousness from the regular to the ridiculous.
