The Swiss Model

What the Swiss get right and what Britain can learn from it:

  • Federalism – A long term grievance of the British people is the dominance of London in British life. Federalism would decentralize the British state and grant greater power at the regional and local level.
  • Direct Democracy – How many times have British politicians gone back on their word or ignored the British public altogether? By imitating the Swiss model of direct democracy, the British people will have the power to call a referendum or challenge parliamentary decisions.
  • Proportional Representation – I’m sick of the two party system, how about you? Remember that time UKIP won 12% of the vote and only got 1 seat in parliament? Under proportional representation, UKIP would have won 12% of the seats in parliament; 78 seats.
  • Written Constitution – The UK is one of the only modern States in existence to have no written constitution. It’s no surprise then that we’re also a nannystate. The British people should have their rights codified in a written document, and the State should be bound by that document.
  • Non-interventionism – We’ve had quite enough wars for the time being. And really, what good has it done for us or the rest of the world? We’re wasting money, lives, and destabilizing the world.
  • Gun Rights – A hard pill to swallow for most Brits. We’re one of the most gunphobic Western nations. But what freedoms do a people really have with no means to defend them?
  • Lower taxes – A lower tax rate attracts businesses and investors from around the world. More jobs and a greater amount of money to invest into entrepreneurship will lead to a prosperous future for Britain.
